1. Speech competition on "Why Democracy is Considered the Best Form of Government" on International Democracy day (14.9. 2024)
In celebration of International Democracy Day, the Department organized speech competition on the topic "Why Democracy is Considered the Best Form of Government." Participants eloquently presented their views, emphasizing the core values of democracy, including equality, freedom of expression, accountability, and the role of citizens in decision-making processes. Among the participants, Purnima and Sonia from BA Semester III bagged first and second position and captivated the judges and audience with their compelling speeches, showcasing their depth of understanding and eloquence. Their thought-provoking presentations earned them the first and second place in the competition, a testament to their hard work and dedication to the topic.

2. Power Point Presentation on “Gandhian Ideologies and Principles” to Mark Gandhi Jayanti (4.10.2024)
In commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti, the department organized a PowerPoint presentation session on the theme “Gandhian Ideologies and Principles.” The event aimed to enlighten students about the enduring relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy in contemporary society. Students actively participated by presenting key concepts from Gandhi’s life, including non-violence (Ahimsa), truth (Satya), self-reliance (Swadeshi), and civil disobedience. The presentations highlighted how these principles have shaped India’s freedom movement and continue to inspire social and political thought across the globe. The event concluded with an open discussion, allowing students to reflect on the practical application of Gandhi’s teachings in today’s world.

3. A quiz competition organized as part of the celebration National Constitution Day ( 26.11.2024)
National Constitution Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Department . The department organized awareness program highlighting the importance of the Indian Constitution. During the event, Assistant Professor of Political Science Jaswinder Kaur highlighted the importance of the Constitution and the contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in drafting and implementing this historic document. Her address inspired the students to understand and uphold the principles of justice, freedom and equality enshrined in the Constitution. A quiz competition was also organized as part of the celebration, in which three teams - Justice, Liberty and Law - participated. Team Liberty emerged as the winner, bagging the first prize, Team Law came second and Team Justice came third. This event stressed on the importance of fulfilling the duties enshrined in the Constitution and motivated the students to contribute to the progress of the country by following its ideals.

4. Poster Making Competition on Human Rights Day (10.12.2024)
Human Rights Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Department . As part of the celebration, a poster making competition was organized to raise awareness about human rights and their importance. The students participated with enthusiasm and made impressive posters highlighting various aspects of human rights.
5.Debate competition on "Is the United Nations Still Effective in Maintaining World Peace?" (6.3.2025)
In observance of International Democracy Day, the Department of Political Science at PCMSD College organized a thought-provoking debate competition centered on the topic: "Is the United Nations Still Effective in Maintaining World Peace?" The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students ac, who engaged in a rigorous exchange of ideas. Proponents highlighted the UN's significant contributions to global peacekeeping efforts, citing its role in mediating conflicts and deploying peacekeeping missions in volatile regions. They emphasized the organization's success in facilitating peaceful resolutions and its commitment to upholding international law. Conversely, critics pointed to instances where the UN's interventions were perceived as inadequate or delayed, questioning its responsiveness in crisis situations. They argued that geopolitical interests and the veto power held by permanent Security Council members often hinder decisive action, impacting the organization's overall effectiveness. Assistant professor aswinder Kaur lauded the participants for their insightful arguments and encouraged continued discourse on international governance mechanisms. Garima and Navjot of B.A.B.ED 6th semester bagged the first and second prize, while Bhawana of B.A 4th semester bagged the third prize. The debate concluded with a consensus on the importance of continuous assessment and reform of international bodies like the United Nations to ensure they adapt effectively to the evolving challenges of global peace and security.

6. National Webinar (24.3.2025)
The Department organized a National webinar on the topic “Exploring Political Science as a Social Science: Unveiling the Nature and the Scope of the Discipline.” The event featured Dr. Nidhi Lakhotra an Associate professor at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College ,(University of Delhi) as the esteemed resource person. The webinar aimed to shed light on the intricate nature and expansive scope of Political Science within the broader framework of social sciences. Dr. Nidhi elaborated on how Political Science intersects with various social phenomena, contributing to societal development, governance, and policy-making. During her address, Dr. Nidhi Lakhotra highlighted the importance of understanding Political Science not just as a study of power and governance but also as a tool to analyze social structures, institutions, and the dynamic interplay between state and society. She emphasized the evolving nature of the discipline and encouraged students to approach it with an interdisciplinary perspective. The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students from various streams.
